Scholarships
Support life-changing scholarships.
When you give a gift to scholarships, you gain the satisfaction that comes with helping others achieve their potential.
Need-based and merit scholarships are critical to achieving our mission of providing a high-quality education at an affordable cost. Students from low- and middle-income families often have more financial need than we can meet. On average, the gap between need-based financial aid and the expected family contribution is $6,000-$7,000 per student per year. Your support of scholarships at any level will help us close this gap, ensuring that more first-generation students and students from underrepresented backgrounds can choose to enroll.
You can make an immediate impact by:
- Donating to the university's General Scholarship Fund.
- Establishing a scholarship in your name or in honor of someone important to you for a minimum gift of $10,000.
Endowed Scholarships
An endowed scholarship creates a permanent fund that can be in your name or in honor of someone important to you. The impact of an endowed fund grows as the fund grows.
There are many reasons donors establish endowments: to pay it forward by helping others, to have a positive impact on society, or to make certain that opportunities will exist far into the future. In order to achieve UMass Amherst's mission of providing an affordable, high-quality education, we strive continuously to offer more generous need-based and merit scholarships.
By establishing an endowed scholarship fund, you will:
- Establish a permanent fund that can be named according to your wishes in perpetuity.
- Encourage others to give—scholarship recipients often give back.
- Provide more aid over time as the fund grows.
- Help reduce the need for students to take out loans to finance their education
